S I Sealy supporting the next generation of healthcare engineers

The next generation of healthcare mechanical and electrical engineers will need a blend of technical expertise, digital fluency and collaborative leadership. They must understand healthcare standards, including HTMs and HBNs, while designing resilient power, ventilation, water, medical gas and controls systems that protect patient safety. Skills in decarbonisation, heat electrification, renewable energy, building physics and whole-life carbon assessment will be essential as NHS estates progress towards net zero.

Engineers should be confident using building information modelling, digital twins, smart meters, building management systems and data analytics to predict demand, identify faults and optimise performance. Systems thinking will help them balance clinical priorities, infection prevention, energy efficiency, maintainability and cost.

They will also need strong communication, risk management and commercial awareness to work effectively with clinicians, estates teams, contractors, finance specialists and Authorising Engineers.

Above all, curiosity, adaptability and sound professional judgement will enable them to respond responsibly to evolving technology, regulation and models of care.

As an owner-managed business, our senior leadership team ensures that we continue to be at the forefront of our industry, this includes supporting, training and mentoring our engineers to continually develop their skills and knowledge.  In addition, we look to encourage and inspire the next generation of engineers – demonstrated by our Managing Director, Daniel Madden BEng(Hons) CEng MCIBSE FIHEEM FCMI CMgr being the Education & Careers Champion for CIBSE Northwest.
