Matthew Pickford celebrates 25 years at S I Sealy

Congratulations to our Director, Matthew Pickford, who celebrates an incredible 25 years with S I Sealy today.

Matthew’s journey with the company began even earlier, completing a summer placement in 2000 while studying Building Services Engineering at UMIST. Following his graduation in 2001, he was offered a permanent role.

Over the past 25 years, Matthew has progressed through every level of the business, consistently demonstrating technical excellence and a strong focus on delivering high-quality designs for clients. In 2019, he became Technical Director, leading S I Sealy and the Net Zero UK team and became Director in 2026.

Matthew’s passion for improving energy performance in new and existing buildings led him to become a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant and CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessor in 2007. His forward-thinking approach have been instrumental in developing our services, including the move to Revit in 2012 and expanding our use of advanced thermal modelling techniques.

Matthew has delivered a diverse portfolio of projects throughout his career, building strong, long-standing client relationships along the way. His experience includes the delivery of over 15 Flight Club and Electric Shuffle venues across the UK; the refurbishment of Manchester’s iconic Corn Exchange; projects for numerous NHS Trusts, including the recent Water Meadow View for Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust and Seren Lodge for Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; the rollout of more than 300 JD Group stores across the UK and Europe; laboratory and office developments at Keele Park Developments (ICU 3 & 4); and numerous education facilities for the Department for Education.

He also played a key role in delivering low-carbon developments, including the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Low Carbon Skills Fund programme, and Liverpool Heart and Chest Decarbonisation Reports, which resulted in an overall potential carbon reduction of 410 tonnes per annum.

Reflecting on his time, Matthew commented: “I’ve always enjoyed my time at S I Sealy. The people have made it a rewarding place to work, and I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with excellent colleagues and directors throughout my career. One of the aspects I am most proud of is how we support the development of young engineers, providing opportunities to grow while gaining experience across a broad range of disciplines.

I’m grateful to the past directors, Stephen Tattersall, Graham Goodwin, Steve Dale, and David Stafford who gave me the opportunity to start my career here, and I look forward to continuing to work with Daniel Madden and the senior leadership team to support the company’s future. We have ambitious plans for strategic and sustainable growth, and I’m proud to be part of driving the company forward.”

Congratulations, Matthew, on this remarkable milestone, and thank you for your dedication and contribution to S I Sealy over the past 25 years!
