The Olive School, Preston
This project involved the design and build of the two-storey 2FE school building featuring spacious classrooms for reception, infant and junior years, office space, a fully fitted school kitchen, workrooms, and a large sports hall. The building was constructed using modern methods of construction with all external doors, windows, internal partitions, and the first fix MEP carried out off-site before the building was installed on the vacant site.
The design incorporates a range of sustainable principles, including optimising natural light, thermal mass, hybrid natural ventilation systems and LED lighting systems throughout. Along with providing the detailed MEP design, our Building & Energy Modelling team provided a low carbon technology feasibility study, Climate Based Daylight Modelling analysis, and an overheating & ventilation assessment, ensuring the building is in full compliance with TM52 and CBDM.
The school was modelled in EDSL TAS, allowing our engineers and the wider team to predict the building’s C02 emissions and energy savings. By utilising these energy-efficient construction methods and highly efficient mechanical and electrical systems, the building achieves a 30% carbon emission reduction over & above Part L compliance.
