Elizabeth Tower Restoration Shortlisted for RIBA Stirling Prize 2025

The landmark restoration of the Elizabeth Tower, home to the world-famous Big Ben, has been shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize 2025, the UK’s highest honour in architecture.

Since completion, the project has been widely celebrated, securing two of the UK’s most prestigious architectural awards; the RIBA London Award, announced in May, and the RIBA National Awards 2025, announced in July. Winning a RIBA National Award placed Elizabeth Tower among six projects shortlisted for this year’s Stirling Prize, the Royal Institute of British Architects’ most distinguished award, recognising the building that has made the most significant contribution to architecture in the UK over the past year.

The £80 million Elizabeth Tower restoration project was an essential part of the ongoing efforts to restore the Houses of Parliament. It required careful planning and execution to preserve the historical significance of the Elizabeth Tower while incorporating modern conservation techniques.

Our team was appointed on the project in January 2015, initially to provide MEP feasibility studies and option appraisals for various options to repair and restore Elizabeth Tower, resulting in the client approving the option to undertake the full repair and restoration works. Following this, our team worked closely with the Architect to deliver the comprehensive fabric restoration and future protection for the structure and were responsible for the design of the complete renewal of all MEP services including the replacement of the iconic clock face lighting and new passenger lift.

You can cast your vote for Elizabeth Tower in the RIBA Stirling Prize People’s Poll. Voting closes at 5pm on 5 October: RIBA Stirling Prize
