StockRoom, Stockport

Client: CBRE Ltd & Stockport Coucil

Architect: AEW Architects

Budget: £14.5m

Completed: 2025

Our team was commissioned by CBRE Ltd and Stockport Council to undertake the initial mechanical and electrical design for the new StockRoom under a Design & Build contract, while providing ongoing technical advisory support throughout the project.

StockRoom is a future-focused community hub in Stockport town centre, repurposing 47,000 sq. ft. of retail space around Adlington Walk. The development features a town centre library, creative and IT spaces, multi-purpose event areas, and bespoke spaces for local businesses and services. The project forms part of the wider Merseyway Redevelopment Plan, which includes new shopfronts, public realm improvements, and enhanced access from the rooftop car park via a new stair and lift core.

The mechanical and electrical design included:

  • Heating and cooling: VRF Air Source Heat Pumps for energy-efficient climate control.
  • Ventilation: Central air handling units with heat recovery and plate heat exchangers to reduce energy demand.
  • Lighting: High-efficiency LED lighting with modular layouts and advanced control systems.

Our team worked closely with the client to provide design review and compliance checks, ensuring all systems were installed in accordance with the original specifications, regulatory standards, and performance requirements.

StockRoom now provides an inclusive, multi-purpose space for the community, supporting learning, creativity, wellbeing, and local business growth, while incorporating low-energy, future-ready M&E solutions to support Stockport Council’s carbon reduction goals.
