Royal Bolton Hospital Maternity Unit Phase II

Client: Bolton NHS Foundation Trust

Budget: £1.4m

Completed: 2012

The Bolton NHS Foundation Trust employed S I Sealy to carry out the development of an outline design for a new LDRP Unit (Labour, Delivery, Recovery & Post-natal Unit) utilising modular build construction techniques to assist in the urgency of the development. As a result our design had to be robust enough to accommodate a number of different suppliers.

The accommodation consisted of Birthing Pools and traditional Delivery Suites with associated clinical and administration facilities. This offereed an improved delivery servoce from the Hospital and supplemented the present maternity department.

The Delivery Suites had Heat Pump Air conditioning with special provision within the Ventilation Services for Entonox Extract. Ancillary areas were heated by Radiant Panels with Natural or Mechanical Ventilation as appropriate. The Primary Mechanical Services and Medical Gas Services were taken as an extension to the existing services.

The suites were complete with sympathetic low energy lighting along with functional examination lighting. State of the art Nurse Call and Baby Monitoring/Tagging Security systems were installed as the health and security of the babies was a high priority.

Essential and non-essential power was derived from the existing hospital LV network.

The design was completed to tender status.
