Extra Care Leek, British Trimmings

This new build development will include 87 self-contained flats with staff and communal facilities for the over-55s. It is being developed on a former British Trimmings factory site. After a delay, the project has received planning approval and is preparing for the tender stage. S I Sealy is currently producing a performance specification to complete the mechanical and electrical works. CHP and solar thermal are currently being considered as renewable energy technologies. There will be sophisticated lighting control.

Through this project we were awarded a substantial grant by the Technology Strategy Board to undertake research into climate change in the UK over the next 25 to 50 years, and design mitigation measures. This involved looking at the expected changes in the weather and extremes expected and looking at sustainable renewable technologies and climate change adaptations capable of coping with global warming. We are using the results of this research to future-proof our care home projects and other similar developments.
